Chewy Junior – Not Chewy at all Tuesday, 12 June 07

The recent donut craze is almost making everyone insane. Queuing up for hours just to get a few donuts seems to be the norm nowadays. Can someone please come up with something new other than donuts or puffs? I’m getting pretty sick eating them hee
I was browsing through Stomp when I saw this particular article on the latest food fad – Chewy Junior.
Mr Ong, 43, who has worked for 20 years in the food and beverage industry as a chef and restaurant manager, wants to keep the recipe a secret. But he was frank about his reasons for starting the business.
Looking at the success of Beard Papa, a chain of Japanese cream puff shops, and the Donut Factory, which attracts long queues at Raffles City, he decided he wanted a piece of the action.
He took the chance of the current craze and started this business? What a move.

Isn’t the boss daring to start his business just beside Chocolat N’ Spice, the famous muffins? huh There’s not even a single soul around when I arrived at the shop @ 3pm on a weekday. There are 6 employees in the tiny shop idling around and the puffs were displayed on the shelf openly without any thought for hygiene purpose wth

One look at the menu certainly makes you drool. But sometimes, looks on the surface can be deceiving. On a side note, why are they using Comic Sans? :s And frankly speaking, I have the feeling that he “borrowed” the idea of Beard Papa & Donut Factory into this business venture of his :x

Aren’t they looking particularly familiar? Furthermore, they are totally different from the menu. The outer crust is flat, thick, dry and hard  The cream inside was not even oozing out when I bite into it and has this weird sourly taste which I couldn’t really describe

I’d rather buy Beard Papa lah. But I missed their Strawberry edition! :argh:

I was thinking of popping there during this June Holidays of mine to try it out after reading it on the newspapers. Well, since you rate it 1.5/5, I guess I won’t be going there anymore. Hahas.
Btw, you missed out the main location of the shop (i.e Tanjong Pagar Plaza). =x
Oh man, you’re right! The menu really is deceiving. The food dosen’t even look close to yummy.
i love your new theme :D
pretty & refreshing, for a change :D
the food look so… flat. doesnt look attractive and delicious :p
Oops, thanks for pointing out. Will search for more food (delicious ones) :p
Ya! I agree! The pic look deceiving! Haha. Post more abt food!
Nice to see, not nice to put inside my mouth. I always say I hate yucky food to be stucked on my taste buds, hoping on my tongue. :x

Hey Jacelyn,
Irrelevant to your post but I think I saw your bf on Thursday at Outram MRT and I think he’s talking to you on the phone haha!
Saw him a number of times already, such a small world.
=)
can u help me check my code or something?
Really? Maybe it’s him, his office is at Outram
Haha.. Yeah Singapore is too small :p
What codes? o.o
hahaha no need le
I LOVE YOUR NEW SKIN! :D
lol, the cakes really dont the same in the menu :disbelief:
Eat these foods will become fat?haha..
I love their puffs or donuts whatever it is. When I stand near the shop I could smell the aroma coming from there. I had to queue for quite a while (shorter than Donut Factory) but it was worth the wait. I love their oreo crunch flavor the most. Speaking of those puffs just makes me feel like going there again! It is also true that the pictures look different from the real thing but it tastes soooooo good.
btw chewy junior is healthier than Donut Factory cause they are baked, not deep fried.
