Updated with video! :)

Thanks to the team from Blog2U, I had the chance to step my feet into this museum which I never knew it existed in the first place :secret: Due to the collaboration of NHB and HungryGoWhere.com, we had the chance to indulge in the most sedaaap hawker food from around Singapore and also get to know about the culture of the Peranakans =)

Presenting to you The Peranakan Museum!

A group photo with the team and bloggers + my Ong Sir :erm:

With Neo and Maureen :wiggle:

Due to the scorching weather which I nearly died from, we only managed to try out the following :secret:

Old Chang Kee’s curry puffs which I have it almost every morning…

…and the fried hokkien mee from Thye Hong :) YUMMY! :drunk: One of the best hokkien mee I’ve ever eaten =)

Flea markets which all the ladies love
BUT this is not the main reason why we are here hokay!

THIS IS IT!!! :)

Our tour guide for the day is Mark Lee, a very jovial and humorous guy who made the whole tour really fun :D He’s damn skinny can?

The ancestors of the Peranakans a.k.a. Nonyas =)

Gifts for the wedding woot

Amazing skills they have! I wonder how long it would take me to finish this.
Imagine it already took me two months to finish a cross-stitch :D This? Years I bet!

Their kitchen. Classic!

Utensils they use during dinner. A lot eh? hee I only use ONE plate

Hello hello, who’s there? (P/S: The guy refused to put down the phone even though I stood there waiting for him to do so :disbelief: ) Ok, I disgress.

Beautiful handmade stuff ;) Can I have one, please? :sigh:

The balloon artist and face painter were there to entertain the kids.
I couldn’t even get a chance to kope the balloon :( Too old to get one :disbelief:

I have too many pictures to post BUT I don’t wish to, cos it’s much more fun to experience it yourself personally! :wiggle: So head down to the museum NOW! (and you will get what I mean) :hehe:

Overall, I feel that this tour is really educational and it intrigued me to find out more about the Peranakan’s culture. Here are some of the things that I have learnt through this tour:-

  • Mrs Lee Kuan Yew is a Nonya, she had contributed some items to the museum.
  • The only ambition the Nonya ladies used to have is to get married and take care of their husbands.
  • The brides can be as young as 14 years old.
  • Only the rich can have patterned tiles in their home.
  • They are very particular in the table settings for meals and desserts. Impressive right?
  • They have very traditional weddings.

Once again, many thanks to Blog2U for the invitation. If you are interested to know more about the programs that Explore Singapore! has in store for you, check out their website :)

Now, who still dare to say Singapore is boring?! :D
