Food Tasting Session at One Rochester

Have you heard about OpenRice before? Well, it’s Hong Kong’s most popular dining guide to help foodies find places to eat based on the reviews. OpenRice Singapore landed here a few months ago and they hold weekly OpenRice Tasty Union (ORTU) for food lovers like me! Wahoo! :eat:

They invited me to a food tasting session last month at One Rochester. Boy am I glad cos it’s so frigging romantic to have a nice dinner there. Boss, get the hint or not? :tongue2:

The al fresco dining area is surrounded by lush greenery, very very surreal. :cloud9:

We were being presented with their new communal menu, which is served in a communal sharing style. Just by looking at the description makes me drool. ;)

Berry French Martini

A concoction of chambord, vodka, pineapple juice and fresh raspberry. It’s totally refreshing and works amazingly well together.

‘Nibble’ Platter

Consists of herb crumbed stuffed olives, potato skins with sour cream and ocean trout caviar, foie gras parfait, rabbit & pork terrine, cured hams and pickles. The rabbit terrine is simply too exotic for my liking. I don’t remember if I ate any of it though. Best thing I love were the bite-sized potato skins! :love3:

Tastes of the East

Includes spicy Thai chicken and prawn dip with rice crackers, Sze Chuan salt and pepper soft shell crab, chicken and beef skewers, crispy pork crackles, otah on toast. Unfortunately, I only tried the soft shell crab so I can’t give a fair review for this dish. :sad3:

Twice baked Gruyere Souffle, Salade Chapponade with Crispy Bacon

Very cheesy and creamy. It’s like the cheese version of bread pudding. :wink1: But having too much of it will make you bloated, so eat it moderately. :)

Tiger Prawn Salad with Cous Cous, Pomegranate, Mint & Persian Feta

Totally dig this! This must be one of the best salads I have ever eaten! The prawns were extremely succulent and fresh. The bits of pomegranate made the entire dish even more refreshing and crunchy. :drool2:

Baby Chicken with Pine Nut, Raisin & Truffle stuffing, and Cranberry & Quince Relish

Esther would definitely love this. Jokes aside, the meat of the chicken was really tender and juicy. I was actually more interested in the crispy looking chicken skin rather than the meat itself hee hee… :drool1:

Shellfish Risotto with Seared Langoustine and Avruga Caviar

Believe it or not, it’s my first time eating risotto and I quite like it! :smileyhappy2:

Braised Angus Short Rib with Creamy Paris Mash Potato and Buttered Baby Carrots

This.Dish.Is.Simply.Fantastic.No.Joke. :jump: I heard that it took them hours and hours of continuous stirring before they achieved the smooth and creamy mashed potato. I’m amazed by the amount of effort they put in. :love4: As for the short ribs, they were braised to perfection and it literally melted in my mouth after I took a bite. Yums!

Apple Martini

Oh yes, I’m a fan of martinis. :love3: The Apple Martini is really sweet, slightly sourish but refreshing.

We were being served lots of food by One Rochester! They were such a good host! I have to thank them for their great hospitality cos I truly enjoyed myself that night! :marie10:

Grande Assiette, a selection of five petite desserts for sharing

You thought it ended there right? No, it was desserts time! :love1: I’m a sucker for pretty looking desserts. Most of their desserts were from another restaurant of theirs named 1-Caramel. I went for Whisper’s event at 1-Caramel, remember? :dance1:

Fine Apple and Frangipane Tart with Calvados Ice Cream

Their signature dish! The warm, caramelized apple tart was oh-so-good. Extremely heavenly and to die for! :drool2: Highly recommended! :love3:

A big thank you to One Rochester and OpenRice for the great dinner. :wink1:
