Best Bubble Tea in Town – Koi Cafe

KOI Cafe (more commonly known as 50岚 in Taiwan) is the latest bubble tea craze. If you notice, the inverted word of KOI looks like the chinese character “豆”. Looks cute isn’t it?

Boss and I visited the AMK outlet last weekend since we had nothing better to do hahaha…

The crowd started building up the moment we got our orders.

They have a numbering system to ensure that the queue is more systematic.

We get to choose the level of sugar. This is a common practice in Taiwan and I opted for the less sugar (70%).

Boss had Caramel Milk Tea and I had Hazelnut Milk Tea. We added ice cream to it (extra 50 cents) and it turns out to be even more yummy!

I’ve tried the outlet at Marine Parade and usually they would add almost half a cup of pearls. The one at AMK doesn’t do so. I might just visit Marine Parade since it’s much closer to my house.

The Perfect Moment

It has been a long time since boss and I went on a proper date. We brought along the Canon 450D which I had rented and went to Marina Barrage for photo taking!

The photos came out mad awesome! Look at the details of the fountain being captured! Ooh la la!

A view of the Singapore Flyer. It would look better without all the buildings blocking it. But still, it’s a beautiful sight.

It’s been a long time since I last flew a kite! A couple of years maybe?

Wanted him to take a photo of me and he took this. Wah lao! Where got people focus background one? Focus on ME mah!

We managed to camwhore using the DSLR haha. Pro!

And I did a star jump on the bridge. Boss refused to do it cos he’s shy. Act only!

The photos came out absolutely fantastic! We are saving up to get a Canon 500D! Hopefully we can get one by June.

The thing I love about Korean food is the amazing array of side dishes they usually gave. It’s free flow! Can eat till you puke!

Never ever forget the greens when you’re eating at a Korean restaurant!

BBQ meat wrapped in veggies = YUM! You’ve got to try it!

After dinner, we headed down to the arcade to have a shot at this!

Surprisingly, we hit the JACKPOT!!! If only this happen in the casinos lol.

Standing Sushi Bar – Stand, Order, Eat

I first saw Standing Sushi Bar’s twitter account a few weeks back. Wanted to give it a try and Nadia was nice enough to organize a makan session!

Together with Nadia, CCB, Victor, Nicole, Jolin, Justin and QQ, we headed down to Standing Sushi Bar for an 8 course omakase dinner specially prepared by Chef Roy!

Omakase literally means entrust and basically means “chef’s choice.” The Itamae (sushi chef) is given the opportunity to select what he will serve you for that meal, and since this commands a higher price usually than one would expect, the quality of the meal (food and presentation) and his attentiveness should make it worth your while.

This is not your average meal, and it should leave you satisfied, still interested, and encouraged.

Sauteed Jellyfish, crunchy with a mild tangy taste from the sauce. Very different from the ones I had at other sushi joints!

Salmon Skin with Mizuna Salad. There was no fishy stench and tasted very zesty, crispy and crunchy. The meat of the battered fish was really fresh and soft.

Assorted Sashimi. I was surprised that they included swordfish sashimi in the platter. One of my favorite sashimis other than salmon! It was the first time I tried maguro as well, not too bad!

Avocado Salmon with Roe. Didn’t expect avocado to be so yummy with the salmon, roe and the specially created sauce. The sauce was really light and creamy, it was a perfect match to the entire dish.

Salmon Cheek, with that crisp skin which was perfectly grilled. There was a slight fishy stench, but the sauce managed to cover it well.

Tuna Bread with Roe, Salmon Bread with Roe and Tomato Sauce. This would go really well with sake.

Miso Soup, very light and healthy.

Assorted Sushi. The raw scallop was SOOO GOOD!

Black Sesame Ice Cream, very creamy and the taste was awesome! IMHO, it is a must have dessert after every Japanese meal.

It was my very first experience with omakase and I am totally loving it. Would definitely return to Standing Sushi Bar for more!

Udders Ice Cream, Simply Udderlicious

Being ice-cream fanatics, boss and I attended the ice-cream cum buffet workshop at Udders to learn more about ice-cream making We nearly conquered their entire range of flavors Udders promises to produce ice-cream that’s fresh, natural and home-made. I am pretty sure they did!

Customers are allowed to vote for new flavors on the chalkboards. There are loads of weird flavors like rice wine, korean ginseng, kimchi, ketchup, wasabi, etc. Like WTF?! Who the heck eats those as ice-cream? Oh probably there is, but it’s just plain weird

Here are the ingredients and tools needed to make our own ice-cream!

We added in Hershey’s chocolate sauce to make chocolate flavored ice-cream More more more!

Proceeded to pour the mixture into these ziplock bags…

…and tender lovingly massage it together with the ice cubes to make it FREEZE

And we are done!

Our self-made ice-cream! Simple isn’t it? I feel that it’s not chocolaty enough, but the trainer said that if we added in too much chocolate sauce it will not harden But then again, what’s this? We would rather try out the better ones!

Mine – Lychee Martini, Tira-miss-u, Strawberry Fields and Fresh Mango Sorbet Strawberry Fields is one of their best sellers and Tiramisu has the most amount of FAT! Holy shit! I am allergic to the word FAT can?!

Boss – ChocMarsh, Bailey’s & Bourbon, Strawberry Fields and Kopi-C Ecstasy

Hazelnut and their highly raved Mao Shan Wang Durian flavor! Too bad boss doesn’t eat durian. Miss out the best flavor la!

We even had free flow of waffles!

Plus a cup of cappuccino for boss.

We enjoyed the workshop very much But then again, how much can we eat?

Hokkaido Fair @ Isetan Tampines

The Hokkaido Fair is back! I dragged boss to the fair last year only to find out that the range of products is effing pathetic! I hope it won’t disappoint me this year. Anybody wants to go together?

Manpuku Japanese Gourmet Town is a new Japanese food hall concept that offers authentic Japanese cuisine in a Japanese gourmet street setting, all under one roof at Tampines 1 It has a vast menu selection of over 200 items to indulge in.

Look at the crowd It took us nearly 30 minutes to get into the restaurant. The queue number goes from 1 all the way till 200

I’ve always thought that Singaporeans are crazy to queue for hours for food. I talk too soon, I am one of them unfortunately

Here’s my omelette rice with spinach and bacon in cream sauce. Ajitei’s tasted better though. Weird, considering they are both owned by Ajisen chain

Boss’s omelette rice with pork cutlet in tomato sauce. Not too bad

I forgot the name of this dish

Fruit Paradise made their debut in Singapore! There are 10 different kinds of fruit tarts to choose from :emotionsheart2: They come with 3 kinds of base – custard cream, cheese cream and chocolate cream Be prepared to wait at least 45 minutes if you wish to savour these gems…

Mango Tart, all mine! The mangoes are really sweet and juicy

Boss’s Chocolate Strawberry Tart :cake2: The tart base is really crunchy Wanted to try the other flavors, but S$7.80 for a piece of tart is gonna burn a hole in my pocket!

I took their name card and realized that…

TMD! I shall call up in advance the next time I have a crave for fruit tarts again

Dirt Food

This is the kind of stuff I really hate to see when I am so eager to try on something which is highly raved for :doh:

Here’s another one I found from the buffet spread at Equinox. Can you imagine that? A strand of hair in the food from a 5-star hotel! Shouldn’t these people be more vigilant when they are handling with food? :doh:

How often do you find disgusting stuff in your food? I have the habit of ensuring that the food is clean before digging in. The worst experience I had was finding two baby cockroaches mating in between the tempuras we ordered shocked Gross isn’t it? :grr: I’m glad it was spotted before we started munching on it.

Another experience was a huge fly disguising as a dried longan in the dessert soup. It was laying down there with its wings spread out :bored: Just imagine that :disbelief: And I have already eaten more than half of it. I nearly puked everything out :grr:

Guess where did the waffle go to?

The bin of course :argh: Yes, I am that nitpicky :disbelief:

I may drop by the shop some other time and give it another chance. Till then :bubbles:

Confessions of a Santarina

Dinner was @ Shabuya, introduced by Ong Sir :erm: Do you know that I had to remind him again and again before this guy starts to plan? :doh: Thankfully he didn’t disappoint me :secret: If not, I will whack him hard :wiggle:

I love this place to bits. The service people were really attentive and friendly. Never once did they pull a long face, I’m impressed =) One of the ladies even volunteered to cook the stuff for us How sweet? :blush:

Ben & Jerry’s Chunk Fest – Part 2

Ever since Ong Sir found a job, I find myself hanging around his house either playing mahjong, watching DVD or SCV during weekends :( While he’s slogging away at work, I secretly brought my blind date to the Chunk Fest which was held at Fort Canning Green :secret: We had a hard time searching for that place and were aimlessly wandering around that area for nearly 30 minutes. I feel as though I was training for a 10km marathon :doh: Bless our tired feet. Thank God we are not wearing heels :hehe:

FINALLY reached our destination! We were already perspiring like hell :disbelief:

Nice weather it seems…

But it started to pour shortly after we joined the queue :argh: Can you imagine our disappointment? :sigh: We forgot our brollies! Had to endure the rain, muddy grass and chilly weather wth

The queue is horribly long! :panic: And NO, there is no free ice-cream :disbelief:

Here are the 12 unique flavors all the way from the US! :lol:

Looking at this is gross :x

But eating this is not! :wiggle: I had Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl and Strawberry Banana Frozen Yogurt after nearly queuing for 2 hours! They both tasted really rich and refreshing! I hope they import these flavors to Singapore! :erm:

Happy me with their trademark and yummy ice-cream :D

My pathetic feet and Charles & Keith sandals that’s all muddy :( I had to scrub my feet for an entire hour :devil: I hope they will change the venue if there’s gonna be a second ice-cream festival :doh:

Thanks to the team from Blog2U, I had the chance to step my feet into this museum which I never knew it existed in the first place :secret: Due to the collaboration of NHB and HungryGoWhere.com, we had the chance to indulge in the most sedaaap hawker food from around Singapore and also get to know about the culture of the Peranakans =)

I couldn’t even get a chance to kope the balloon :( Too old to get one :disbelief:

Overall, I feel that this tour is really educational and it intrigued me to find out more about the Peranakan’s culture. Here are some of the things that I have learnt through this tour:-

Mrs Lee Kuan Yew is a Nonya, she had contributed some items to the museum.
The only ambition the Nonya ladies used to have is to get married and take care of their husbands.
The brides can be as young as 14 years old.
Only the rich can have patterned tiles in their home.
They are very particular in the table settings for meals and desserts. Impressive right?
They have very traditional weddings.
