Seoul: Tosokchon Samgyetang

Ginseng chicken soup or Samgyetang (삼계탕) is a popular dish in Korea and is believed to be extremely good for your health due to the ingredients like ginseng and medicinal herbs. Known to serve the best samgyetang in Seoul, we visited Tosokchon Samgyetang at around 5pm on a weekday and there wasn’t any queue! We totally lucked out! bigsmile

The restaurant was converted from a hanok, a traditional Korean house. The dining areas are shared, with low lying tables and cushions to sit on which gives a more authentic dining experience. smile

Let’s tuck in! smile

Mad love that they had free flow kimchi and radish! Which one do you prefer? smile

Seafood pancake was really fresh and best eaten while it’s still hot! smile

Served in a traditional stone pot, the dish has a distinct ginseng taste. The ginseng essence was served separately where you can decide the level of ginseng taste you wish to have.

The white milky broth is extremely flavorful. Every spoonful of the broth gives my stomach a warm feeling. The chicken was stuffed with ingredients like ginseng, jujube, glutinous rice, nuts and the meat of the chicken falls off the bone very easily. You can imagine the effort and time to cook this dish. Good for 2 people, it was gobbled up in no time. smile

If you are around Gyeongbokgung area, don’t forget to try out this traditional dish. A definitely must try if you are in Korea.
