Previously, I had blogged about my staycation experience at Days Hotel. Located at the lobby of Days Hotel, 21 on Rajah serves Mediterranean cuisine in the midst of our local food. Interestingly, the name is derived from the 21 countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea and the dishes are inspired by the various countries. The team from 21 on Rajah had invited us for a food tasting session. Mediterranean food is something new to me, so I gladly accepted!
The white and blue decor of the restaurant was stylish and minimalistic. It eludes a very cosy yet formal feel for those who dine there. Recently, I am particularly attracted to turquoise and mint shades. When I stepped into the restaurant I was like “Oh my god, I want my future house to have the same theme!” Hahhaa! bigsmile
Started off the dinner with a refreshing glass of Mojito. smile
For starters, we had their homemade bread, Crostini of Smoked Eel, Grilled Chicken Satay in Balinese Spices and Prawn and Bacon Roll. I particularly love the prawn and bacon roll as the golden batter was crispy and not too oily. I heard it was made from egg whites! The satay was good too as the chicken meat was really soft and tender. While I would prefer the satay to be slightly charred, the yummy sauce made up for it.
Marseilles Seafood Bouillabaisse tasted like lobster bisque and it was so flavorful. We had other dishes like Stewed Fillet of Danish Cold Water Halibut “Lisbon Style”, Jumbo Prawns with Dill and Saffron Paella and Moroccan Harira with Chicken and Garbanzo Beans. The names are too much of a mouthful. tongue The halibut was particularly delish as it’s cooked with tomatoes, potatoes and onions stewed in olive oil & beurre blanc (white butter). The rich dishes were a tad dry, would be better if there are more gravy to noms with. =)
To end the meal on a sweet note, we had Panntonne Bread and Butter Pudding with Dates and Dark Chocolat Fondant with Raspberry Coulis. My favorite would be the chocolat fondant, you will never go wrong with chocolate and ice cream! The mint stuff are actually homemade marshmallows!
Many thanks to the team at 21 on Rajah for the warm hospitality. The dinner was fab! =)
