Hong Kong: Hung Lee Restaurant

Cha chaan teng (茶餐厅) in Hong Kong are known to offer affordable menus. A hidden gem in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hung Lee Restaurant is a no-frills, traditional Cantonese restaurant serving items like noodles, congee, soups, etc. The restaurant is roughly a 5-8 mins walk from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR, located in a small alley. Thankfully, there wasn’t any queue when we reached around 10am in the morning and were seated fairly quickly. The restaurant was filled with their locals and if you are expecting tip top service here, don’t be. We were looking through the menu thinking of what to order when I felt a weird sense of feeling of someone waiting impatiently for our orders. The servers are not friendly either, but that’s how most eateries are in Hong Kong.

We ordered some sides like youtiao and crispy fried fish skin to munch on. It tasted even better when you dipped these into their soup and it gets soaked up with all the essence of the soup. smile

For our main dishes, we had the wanton noodles and fish dumpling noodles. We came here specially for the fish dumplings and they were fabulous. A good dumpling must have its skin that is springy and chewy and that’s what Hung Lee’s fish dumplings are, with nicely seasoned meat that’s bursting with flavor and oozing with the soup with every mouthful.

Do drop by Hung Lee if you get the chance to, you will not regret it! wink
